Irma also currently serves as University Counsel in the President's Office at the University of Maryland Baltimore. Prior to entering the practice of law, Irma was a project and general business manager in software development and business consulting firms with a marquee list of clients. As University Counsel, Irma advises the Center for Clinical Trials and works closely with the University of Maryland Medical Center and University Physicians Inc. Her responsibilities include providing counsel to the schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Law, Social Work and Public Health. She is the University's lead counsel for matters relating to HIPAA and State and federal privacy laws.
Irma received her J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland Baltimore in 1997. She was an associate editor of The Business Lawyer and received the John S. Strahorn, Jr. award for best work in Evidence. Irma also has an M.B.A. degree from Pace University with a concentration in marketing management. Irma completed a post-graduate fellowship at the National Cancer Institute focusing on technology transfer law and has done clerkships at the Johns Hopkins University and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
