The Biden-Harris Administration has just announced that it will be providing almost $90 million to help rural communities fight against opioid use disorders (OUD) and other forms of substance use disorders (SUD). The funding will be distributed by the US Department of Health & Human Services and will also help to improve access to maternal and obstetrics care.
These funds are awarded through four key programs:
- Rural Communities Opioid Response Program-Implementation: $78 million awarded to 78 organizations across 35 states.
- Rural Communities Opioid Response Program-Psychostimulant Support Program: $7.5 million awarded to 15 rural consortia across 13 states.
- Rural Maternity and Obstetrics Management Strategies Program: $2.9 million awarded to improve healthcare access for rural mothers and their children.
- Rural Northern Border Region Planning Program: $760,000 awarded to community-based organizations to resolve key rural health issues in the rural Northern Border Regional Commission service areas.
